ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Bakhtiar Ali’s novel The City of White Musicians, set during the Anfal genocide campaign, has been translated into German and will be published in August this year.

“I started translating the novel, The City of White Musicians, two years ago. It is now available for publication and will be published in Europe at the end of August,” Peshawa Fatah, the person who has translated the novel into German, told Rudaw.

Both the author and the translator will attend events launching the novel in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Ali was born in Sulaimani in 1960. He studied ecology at both Sulaimani and Salahaddin University. He left university after he was injured in demonstrations in 1983. He has been living in Germany since 1999.

He is one of the most prominent Kurdish writers.

His novels have been described as magic realism. Two of them have been translated into English and German: The World’s Last Pomegranate and Ghazalnus and the Orchards of Imagination.

He also has five poetry books: Sin and Carnival, Bohimi and the Stars, Working in Ferdaws’ Forests, Until the Mourning of Flower Until the Blood of Angel, Oh the Port of Lover Oh the Enemy Ship.
